MINI SURVEY
Do you know the mobile portal m.te-tol.si, which in 2010 won a global award to the best socially responsible mobile practice? The portal offers comprehensive information on the impact of Energetika Ljubljana on air quality.
Reliability, quality and comfort.
With district heating systems and natural gas the capital's air quality is rising.
Energetika Ljubljana and its primary source of energy – the TE-TOL plant – is the biggest Combined Heat and Power plant and district energy system in Slovenia. Cogeneration of energy means greater fuel efficiency and thus improves energy efficiency. District energy systems (district heating and distribution of natural gas) have contributed to today’s air pollution by sulphur dioxide (SO2) in the city being 40 times lower than it was twenty years ago. The start of natural gas use in Ljubljana stretches back to 1861 (the first gas lamp was lit on the city’s streets in November), while the district heating started in 1966. The first gas lamp was lit on the city’s streets in November of that year.
Currently, 73% of Ljubljana households use district heating systems, and the goal is for this to rise to 80% by 2024.
The heat for remote heating is produced in highly efficient co-production together with electricity. 10% of the heat and electricity come from wood biomass, consuming about 70,000 tons of woodchips a year. Ljubljana is therefore among the biggest users of wood biomass for energy purposes in Slovenia.

Ljubljana's energy systems have an enviably long tradition: more than 150 years of supply of natural gas and more than 50 years of providing heat. If the underground pipes of both networks were laid end to end they would go more than three times between the most distant points in Slovenia, namely Goričko and Piran.
| NUMBER OF CUSTOMERS IN LJUBLJANA IN 2015 (IN THOUSANDS) | |

Energetika Ljubljana has prepared Golden Rules of energy saving at home. Following these rules can lead to major savings on your bills.
Up to
20
degrees is an appropriate temperature at home.
Up to
3x
daily we should air a heated room for a few minutes.
Up to
10%
more energy is used by a covered radiator.
Approximately
18
degrees is the recommended temperature in a bedroom.
Every degree above 20°C means
6
per cent
more energy use and consequently higher bills.
A difference of no more than
7
degrees
in a space with air conditioning.
In summer we should air the home in the morning for
5 - 15
minutes
and leave windows wide open to quickly replace hot stale air with fresh cooler air.
I pledge that I will use energy wisely and so save on my monthly bills.
